Dear Students and Families,
The start of a new school year is an exciting time filled with fresh beginnings—new classes, new faces, new routines, and new opportunities for growth. The next two years at Herman Intermediate and in the AdVENTURE STEM program will be a time of learning, challenge, and discovery. Your child’s middle school experience will be engaging and full of meaningful opportunities.
Middle school marks an important transition for students. Academic expectations increase, social dynamics evolve, and students navigate a larger campus with multiple teachers throughout the day. These changes can feel challenging at times, but with the right support, students can thrive.
Families play a vital role in helping students succeed. We encourage parents and guardians to:
-
Talk with your child daily about their school experience. Ask specific questions such as, “What was the most interesting thing you learned today?” or “What are you working on in science or math this week?”
-
Regularly review grades and assignments on Infinite Campus and discuss upcoming quizzes or projects. Your interest and encouragement motivate students to do their best.
-
Stay connected with teachers and staff to build a strong home-school partnership. Teachers provide valuable resources, assignments, and contact information through their online platforms.
-
Our main form of communication between school and home is Parentsquare. Please make sure you are on this platform.
Our goal is to challenge students academically while supporting their social and emotional growth. We strive to develop independent thinkers and problem-solvers who demonstrate strong character and make positive choices. At Herman and AdVENTURE, students are expected to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe, and to show pride in themselves and their school community.
Strong partnerships make our school community successful. We encourage families to get involved through the Parent Faculty Club and School Site Council, as collaboration among students, staff, families, and community partners strengthens our shared mission.
Thank you for reinforcing school expectations at home and for supporting our efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and motivating learning environment for all. Together, we will continue to foster a school community where every student feels valued, challenged, and inspired to succeed.
I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year and welcome you to Herman Intermediate or the AdVENTURE STEM program.

Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to a new school year at Herman Intermediate and the AdVENTURE STEMs program. We are excited to partner with you as students begin another important year of academic growth, personal responsibility, and new opportunities.
Middle school is a time when students continue to develop independence and decision-making skills. Along with these opportunities come higher expectations for behavior, responsibility, and respect. We ask for your support in reinforcing school expectations both at home and at school so that all students can learn in a safe, positive environment.
Student behavior plays a critical role in academic success. Students are expected to follow school rules, treat others with respect, and make choices that support learning. Disruptive behavior impacts not only the individual student, but also the learning environment for others. Our staff works closely with students to address concerns and promote positive behavior, and family support is essential in this process.
We would also like to remind families of our cell phone expectations. Cell phones must be kept silent and stored in students’ backpacks during the school day. Phones that are visible, used during class time, or cause a disruption will be confiscated in accordance with school policy. These guidelines help minimize distractions and keep students focused on learning.
Additionally, punctuality is an important life skill we are actively reinforcing. School begins at 8:05 a.m., and students are expected to arrive on time and ready to learn. Consistent tardiness can disrupt instruction and impact student progress, so we encourage families to help students establish routines that support on-time arrival.
Our shared goal is to support students academically, socially, and emotionally while fostering responsibility, respect, and school pride. Herman and AdVENTURE students are expected to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe, and to take pride in their actions and choices each day.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Working together, we can ensure a successful and positive school year for all students. I look forward to supporting your child and collaborating with you throughout the year.
