Art 1: 7th & 8th Grade- 

Art for 8th graders- 1 semester- In this introductory art class designed for 7th graders, students will embark on a creative journey exploring the principles and elements of art. From line, shape, and color to texture, space, and form, students will learn the fundamental building blocks of visual expression. Through engaging exercises and hands-on projects, they will hone their drawing skills, mastering techniques in both linework and shading. With a diverse array of mediums at their disposal, including pencil, oil pastels, watercolors, colored pencils, and pen, students will discover the versatility and power of each tool in enhancing their artistic vision. Whether sketching a still life, experimenting with perspective, or crafting imaginative compositions, this class promises to ignite a passion for art while fostering technical proficiency and creative confidence.

Art & Design: 8th Grade Only- Welcome to the yearlong art and design journey crafted for 7th and 8th graders! Throughout this comprehensive course, students will immerse themselves in the principles and elements of art, uncovering the vital tools of visual expression alongside essential computer graphics skills. From mastering the foundational concepts of line, shape, and color to navigating the complexities of texture, space, and form, students will cultivate a holistic understanding of artistic composition. Through a dynamic blend of interactive exercises and hands-on projects, they will refine their drawing abilities, honing techniques in both linework and shading. With a diverse array of mediums at their fingertips, including pencil, watercolors, oil pastels, colored pencils, and pen, students will embark on a journey of exploration, discovering the unique qualities of each medium and unleashing their creativity in new and exciting ways. Whether capturing the subtleties of a still life, experimenting with perspective, or crafting original compositions, this class offers a vibrant tapestry of artistic exploration, poised to ignite a lifelong passion for art while fostering technical proficiency and creative confidence in both traditional and digital realms.

Band: Adventure Band (Adventure Students Only), Concert Band (7th & 8th Grade), Symphonic Band (7th & 8th Grade), Piano (7th Grade), Guitar (8th Grade), Music Exploratory (7th Grade)- 

Piano: Learn basic piano skills like note reading, finger dexterity, and hand coordination. No experience necessary!

Guitar: Learn basic guitar skills like note and tab reading, as well as chords. No experience necessary!

Concert band: Come be a part of a musical team! You'll learn how to play a band instrument - flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, bass, or percussion. No experience necessary!  

Symphonic band: Varsity music! Must have prior experience (at least 1 year) on your instrument to join. 

Music Exploratory: Come and get an introduction to various instruments and musical styles! We'll look at piano, guitar, bucket drums, and other non-traditional "percussion" instruments. No experience necessary! 

Computer Science: 8th Grade Only- 

The Computer Science class, derived from Silicon Valley Education Foundation’s Innovate Program, is designed to introduce the basics of computer sciences.  Students are introduced to: Making & Design Thinking, Physical Computing, and Coding. 

This elective utilizes a Micro:bit for the seamless integration of programming and physical computing and  is centered on the four pillars of computational thinking: algorithm, decomposition, patterns, and abstraction.

Materials include: a CS kit checked out for the semester and Digital resources such as MakeCode & Nearpod.

Ethnic Studies: 8th Grade Only (Description Coming Soon)

Forensics: 7th Grade Only- Forensics class introduces students to the basics of forensic science. They learn about crime scene investigation, including evidence collection and analysis such as fingerprints and DNA. Students develop critical thinking skills and an understanding of the role of science in solving crimes. The class aims to inspire curiosity and appreciation for the interdisciplinary nature of forensic science in an engaging and age-appropriate manner.

Leadership: 7th & 8th Grade (Description Coming Soon)

Life Skills: 7th Grade Only- The curriculum for 7th grade Life Skills will consist of goal setting, nutrition education, financial literacy, and drug education. In addition to this content, the students will have study skills built into their lessons. The students will also learn how to do in-depth college and trade school research and planning. Lastly, they will be doing career exploration and analysis.

Teacher/Office/Counselor Aide: 8th Grade Only- As an aide, student help teachers, front office staff and counselors with making copies, doing small projects, taking passes to classes, delivering materials, recycling, grading, etc. Each aide will do something different based on who and where they are working.
